Let me tell you a story about an oven...

We've lived in our house for over ten years. The oven got here first. As you can imagine, the old girl has cooked us countless meals and baked us countless cakes - some more successful than others. š½ļø š°
We've always used the same setting and she has a reputation for being rather fierce. She likes to burn things at a moment's notice resulting in many a ruined dinner/pizza/cake - usually on my watch and so I have always held myself responsible, not her.
Just last week, my husband informed me that the setting we've been using for TEN YEARS is actually the grill with a fan.
The grill. With a fan.
Now I'm not saying that it's the sole reason I'm no master chef in the kitchen but I'm pretty sure it's a major contributing factor. I've laboured under a misconception for so long it didn't occur to me that it was wrong.
This relates so well to children and their education. It's so easy for children to become confused about a concept, learn that misconception and carry it with them throughout their education. I feel part of my job is to wheedle out those misconceptions and address them in a supportive way. It might unlock a whole new level of understanding for the student. Like me and my oven.
Here's to unburned pizzas in the Wilson household from now on - my children will be over the moon! š
Do you have any š¤¦āāļø moments you'd like to share?!
