Are you a '2%er'?!

Whilst on my daily dog walk š¶ this morning I listened to an interesting podcast with Michael Easter who talks about the idea of being a 2%er. He explains that, when given the option of using a lift or stairs, only 2% of people will opt to use the stairs. We all know that walking up the stairs will have greater health benefits in the long run but 98% of us choose the lift for the convenience and ease of avoiding physical exertion.
Although choosing to go up the stairs may only have an imperceptible impact on your health, choosing this option repeatedly will improve your health in the longer term. This can be applied to all aspects of life. Can we avoid the temptation, embrace the temporary discomfort and choose a better long term option in order to become a 2%er?
I find it really hard! Eating the children's Halloween chocolate? Fail š¤¦āāļø. Planning lessons for my students whilst ignoring the mud my dog has traipsed through the house? Win š¾ . I suppose it will take some time to shift my mindset. How about you?
Children experience this too. Extra tuition is probably not high on the most children's fun list but it can have a big impact long term, particularly with their overall confidence. I try to make sure that my lessons are interactive and engaging...after all, that 2% extra might make all the difference.
